| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Ruth F. Luthringer of Oak Park, who | 4 | | passed away on August 8, 2019 at the age of 95; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Ruth Luthringer was born on July 6, 1924 to | 6 | | Charles Ferrill and Ethel Powell; she grew up in Berea, | 7 | | Kentucky during the Great Depression; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Ruth Luthringer attended Berea College; she then | 9 | | earned her master's degree in sociology from Columbia | 10 | | University in New York; she became a social worker and was | 11 | | active throughout the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s; and | 12 | | WHEREAS, Ruth Luthringer married John Lewis Luthringer | 13 | | with whom she had four children; among her many joys in life, | 14 | | her family was her greatest; and | 15 | | WHEREAS, Ruth Luthringer volunteered with numerous | 16 | | charities in her community and continued this work well into | 17 | | her 90s; she was passionate about donating her time to the | 18 | | community; she served as treasurer of the Oak Park and River | 19 | | Forest High School board from the early 1970s to 1980 and | 20 | | taught English at Taipei University from 1988 to 1989; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Ruth Luthringer continued her education in the | 2 | | arts; after her children left for college, she took classes in | 3 | | painting and photography; she was skilled in both arts, but | 4 | | photography became her passion; among her photographic | 5 | | accomplishments, a photo she took is on permanent display in | 6 | | the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago; she also became | 7 | | the personal photographer for President Jimmy Carter when he | 8 | | worked with Habitat for Humanity in the Midwestern states; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Ruth Luthringer was preceded in death by her | 10 | | parents, Charles Ferrill and Ethel Powell; her siblings; her | 11 | | husband, John Lewis Luthringer; and her second child, George; | 12 | | and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Ruth Luthringer is survived by her children, John, | 14 | | Virginia, and David; her six grandchildren; and her two | 15 | | great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
| 16 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | 17 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 18 | | Ruth F. Luthringer and extend our sincere condolences to her | 19 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | 20 | | further
