HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Those distinguished officers and citizens who
3devote themselves to public service and duty, demonstrating
4great courage and diligence in ensuring the safety of citizens
5and communities in Illinois, deserve to be recognized; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Firefighters and police officers risk their lives
7every day in the protection of life and property to ensure that
8communities are safe, and sadly, many first responders are
9lost in the line of duty, making the ultimate sacrifice in
10their service to protect others; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Firefighters, police officers, and first
12responders are not only often valued, trusted, and upstanding
13members of our communities but are also sons, brothers,
14fathers, daughters, sisters, mothers, and siblings; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Since 1966, the 100 Club of Illinois has been
16committed to making a difference in the lives of first
17responders and their families; and
 
18    WHEREAS, The 100 Club of Illinois provides access to
19training, mental health resources, and moral support to active
20duty first responders throughout the State of Illinois; and

1    WHEREAS, The 100 Club of Illinois has worked to provide
2support for the families of fallen first responders, including
3direct financial assistance to families and educational
4assistance for their dependents; and
 
5    WHEREAS, The 100 Club of Illinois distributed $1.3 million
6in direct funding to the families of fallen first responders
7in 2023 and a total of nearly $5 million since 2020; and
 
8    WHEREAS, The 100 Club of Illinois is committed to creating
9and advocating for new pathways towards resiliency in the
10first responder community via access to culturally competent
11resources, training, and funding; and
 
12    WHEREAS, It is important to recognize Illinois' first
13responders and their families, as those who have made the
14ultimate sacrifice and who sacrifice every day for our safety,
15and to recognize the critical support provided by the 100 Club
16of Illinois to these heroes; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
18HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
19we declare August 27, 2024 as Hero Day in the State of Illinois
20and urge all Illinoisans to recognize those whose unwavering
21commitment to public safety has earned them our great respect,
22esteem, and gratitude.
