| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of F. James "Jim" Lumber of Round Lake, who | 4 | | passed away on December 2, 2013; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, James Lumber was born to Frank "Bud" and Evelyn | 6 | | (nee Amann) Lumber on January 6, 1935 in Ingleside; he | 7 | | graduated from Grant Community High School; he earned his | 8 | | Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in English Literature from | 9 | | Marquette University and his Juris Doctor from the University | 10 | | of Michigan; he married Barbara on May 1, 1965; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, James Lumber began his career teaching and | 12 | | coaching at Grant Community High School; he maintained a law | 13 | | practice throughout his life, representing school districts | 14 | | and townships; he represented the Greater Round Lake Fire | 15 | | Protection District for 45 years and the First Fire Protection | 16 | | District of Antioch; and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, James Lumber was elected in 1967 to the first | 18 | | Board of Trustees for the College of Lake County and he was the | 19 | | first board Chairman; he served on the board for 35 years, | 20 | | including several terms as President; in August 2003, the | 21 | | College of Lake County rededicated the performing arts wing at | 22 | | the Grayslake Campus as the James Lumber Center for the |

| 1 | | Performing Arts; and
| 2 | | WHEREAS, James Lumber served as Mayor of Round Lake for 3 | 3 | | terms from 1993 until 2001; his accomplishments included the | 4 | | redevelopment and improvements to the downtown central | 5 | | business district that included Veterans Memorial Park, the new | 6 | | Village Hall, and the beginning of the new police and public | 7 | | works facilities; and | 8 | | WHEREAS, James Lumber enjoyed reading World War II history | 9 | | and spending time with his family; and | 10 | | WHEREAS, James Lumber was preceded in death by his parents, | 11 | | and by his nephew, James Van Kirk; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, James Lumber is survived by his wife of 48 years, | 13 | | Barbara; his sons, F. James Lumber, II and Robert (Chris) | 14 | | Lumber; his grandchildren, Jonathan, Allison, Lauren, Timothy, | 15 | | and F. James, III; his siblings, Charlene Van Kirk, John | 16 | | Lumber, and Mary Olander; by Richard Van Kirk and Tina | 17 | | Richardson; and by many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
| 18 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | 19 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 20 | | F. James "Jim" Lumber, and extend our sincere condolences to | 21 | | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it |
