| 1 | | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate the students, | 4 | | administration, and faculty of Lincoln College on the 155th | 5 | | anniversary of its founding; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Lincoln College is a private, liberal arts | 7 | | college, fully-accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of | 8 | | the
North Central Association; it was established in 1865 to | 9 | | fill the need for an institution of higher learning in central | 10 | | Illinois; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, A charter for the new college, then known as | 12 | | Lincoln University, was secured from the Illinois General
| 13 | | Assembly on February 6, 1865; ground was broken for University | 14 | | Hall, the college's first building, just six days later on
| 15 | | Abraham Lincoln's birthday; and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, The foundation was completed, and the cornerstone | 17 | | was laid by September of 1865; instruction for men and
women | 18 | | began in November of 1866, with the first commencement in 1868 | 19 | | with three graduates; and | 20 | | WHEREAS, Lincoln College has recently undertaken a | 21 | | transformation back to a four-year institution, with a dozen

| 1 | | bachelor's degree programs, while continuing to offer | 2 | | associate degrees; and | 3 | | WHEREAS, Lincoln College is a tremendously diverse | 4 | | institution that provides high-quality education and | 5 | | individualized
attention with a low faculty to student ratio; | 6 | | and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Lincoln College plays a vital role in the economic | 8 | | development and community engagement of the city
of Lincoln and | 9 | | Logan County; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Lincoln College not only offers academic programs | 11 | | but also a variety of sports teams, clubs, and
organizations; | 12 | | extracurricular activities provide students with opportunities | 13 | | to learn life and leadership skills outside the
classroom; | 14 | | therefore, be it
| 15 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 16 | | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 17 | | we congratulate the students, administration, and faculty of | 18 | | Lincoln College on the 155th anniversary of its founding, and | 19 | | we wish them many more wonderful years; and be it further
| 20 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 21 | | presented to Lincoln College as an expression of
