| 2 | | WHEREAS, The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) became | 3 | | law in 1990 prohibiting discrimination
against individuals | 4 | | with disabilities in all areas of public life; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Increased ADA awareness promotes equality and | 6 | | fairness within the United States
for those who live life with | 7 | | a disability; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, One of the largest provisions of the ADA is to | 9 | | provide access to public facilities so
those with disabilities | 10 | | are able to fully participate and enjoy the facilities without | 11 | | concern about
accessibility; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, In 1979, Illinois created the Illinois Human | 13 | | Rights Act forbidding discrimination
based on sex, age, race, | 14 | | color, religion, arrest record, marital status, sexual | 15 | | orientation, physical
and mental disability, citizenship | 16 | | status (with regard to employment), national origin, ancestry,
| 17 | | unfavorable military discharge, familial status (with respect | 18 | | to real estate transactions), military
status, sexual | 19 | | harassment, and orders of protection; and | 20 | | WHEREAS, Illinois is committed to fighting discrimination, | 21 | | creating the Illinois Human Rights

| 1 | | determinations of whether there has been unlawful | 2 | | discrimination
as defined by the Illinois Human Rights Act; and | 3 | | WHEREAS, Illinois has approximately 1.4 million people | 4 | | with a reported disability; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Providing access to seating and parking for those | 6 | | with disabilities creates ease of
access to attend events and | 7 | | enjoy the facilities across the State; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Ensuring access to public locations benefits all | 9 | | citizens by promoting inclusivity and
diversity; therefore, be | 10 | | it
| 11 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | 12 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we encourage the State | 13 | | of Illinois and all public facilities to faithfully follow
| 14 | | federal Americans with Disabilities Act laws and the Illinois | 15 | | Human Rights Act to ensure that events are accessible to all
| 16 | | people with disabilities across the State.
