| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 |
| Representatives congratulate Nada Stotland, M.D., M.P.H. for | 4 |
| her ascension to the post of president-elect of the American | 5 |
| Psychiatric Association; and
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, A professor of psychiatry and | 7 |
| obstetrics/gynecology at Rush Medical College,
Dr. Stotland | 8 |
| will serve as president-elect for one year and then will take | 9 |
| the reins of the Association as president in May of 2008; and
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Stotland has held a wide range of leadership | 11 |
| positions within the American Psychiatric Association, | 12 |
| including terms as vice president and secretary-treasurer on | 13 |
| its Board of Trustees, speaker of the Assembly and chair of | 14 |
| both the Committee on Women, and the Joint Commission on Public | 15 |
| Affairs; she has also been president of other distinguished | 16 |
| health organizations, including the Illinois Psychiatric | 17 |
| Society, the Association of Women Psychiatrists, and the North | 18 |
| American Society for Psychosocial Obstetrics and Gynecology; | 19 |
| and
| 20 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Stotland serves on the boards of Mental Health | 21 |
| America, a consumer and family advocacy group, and Physicians | 22 |
| for Reproductive Choice and Health; she is the author or editor |

| of seven books and over seventy articles and has won a number | 2 |
| of awards, including the APA's Francis Braceland and Alexandra | 3 |
| Symonds Awards and the American Medical Women's Association's | 4 |
| Lila Wallis Award; and
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Stotland is a noted authority on women's | 6 |
| mental health and has appeared on "Oprah", "Larry King Live", | 7 |
| and CNN's "Talk Back Live"; she has also testified before both | 8 |
| chambers of Congress and the federal Food and Drug | 9 |
| Administration; and
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, Dr. Stotland received her undergraduate, medical, | 11 |
| and residency education at the University of Chicago and was a | 12 |
| faculty member for more than 10 years, serving as the director | 13 |
| of the Psychiatric Consultation-Liaison Service and the | 14 |
| director of Psychiatric Education; she later served as medical | 15 |
| coordinator for the State of Illinois Division of Mental Health | 16 |
| and as the chair of psychiatry at the Illinois Masonic Medical | 17 |
| Center in Chicago; and

| WHEREAS, Nada Stotland, a long-time resident of the Hyde | 19 |
| Park neighborhood in Chicago, is married to Harold Stotland, a | 20 |
| highly respected lawyer; they have four grown children, Leah, | 21 |
| Naomi, Eve, and Hannah; from time to time she has volunteered | 22 |
| her lovely voice and superior acting skills to the Gilbert & | 23 |
| Sullivan Opera Company Inc. in Chicago; therefore, be it |

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 2 |
| NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | 3 |
| congratulate Nada Stotland, M.D., M.P.H. on her position as | 4 |
| president-elect of the American Psychiatric Association; and | 5 |
| be it further
| 6 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 7 |
| presented to Dr. Nada Stotland and to the American Psychiatric | 8 |
| Association as a symbol of our respect.
