| 2 | | WHEREAS, Sarcoidosis is a non-contagious, systemic disease | 3 | | of unknown origin and is commonly diagnosed
with the detection | 4 | | of inflamed, microscopic growths, called granulomas, which | 5 | | most commonly
affect the lungs but can affect any organ in the | 6 | | body; many individuals stricken with sarcoidosis
eventually | 7 | | develop serious disabling conditions caused by damage to vital | 8 | | organs, such as eyes,
lungs, heart, brain, kidneys, and the | 9 | | central nervous system; and | 10 | | WHEREAS, Sarcoidosis is a disease that affects many of our | 11 | | fellow citizens and people around the world and
still remains a | 12 | | mystery; skin-related symptoms of this chronic, multi-system | 13 | | disease were
first recognized over 100 years ago, however, the | 14 | | effects of sarcoidosis on other bodily
organs were not observed | 15 | | until the first quarter of the 19th century; today, researchers | 16 | | are still
trying to learn more about the cause and the nature | 17 | | of this affliction; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Researchers believe sarcoidosis results from the | 19 | | inhalation of an infectious or allergic substance
from the | 20 | | environment, while others believe it is caused by an alteration | 21 | | of the body's cellular
immune system; and
| 22 | | WHEREAS, The National Sarcoidosis Society provides |

| 1 | | services, educational awareness, and telephone support to
| 2 | | patients, veterans, and their families and, through an ongoing | 3 | | campaign, promotes
increased awareness of and medical research | 4 | | into this debilitating disease; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Sarcoidosis is found throughout the world and | 6 | | affects numerous citizens in Illinois; therefore, be it
| 7 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 8 | | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 9 | | we declare October 12, 2019 as "Sarcoidosis Awareness Day" in | 10 | | the State of Illinois; and be it further
| 11 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 12 | | presented to the National Sarcoidosis Society.
