| SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, Ronald Reagan was born on February 6, 1911, in | 3 |
| Tampico, the first American President born in Illinois; as a | 4 |
| youth, he worked as a lifeguard at Lowell Park in Dixon, and he | 5 |
| graduated from Eureka College in Eureka; and
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, President Ronald Wilson Reagan, a man of humble
| 7 |
| background, worked throughout his life serving freedom and | 8 |
| advancing the public good, having been employed as an
| 9 |
| entertainer, union leader, corporate spokesman, Governor of
| 10 |
| California, and President of the United States; and | 11 |
| WHEREAS, Ronald Reagan served with honor and distinction
| 12 |
| for two terms as the 40th President of the United States of
| 13 |
| America, the second of which he earned the confidence of
| 14 |
| three-fifths of the electorate and was victorious in 49 of
the | 15 |
| 50 states in the general election, a record unsurpassed in the | 16 |
| history of American presidential elections; and | 17 |
| WHEREAS, In 1981, when Ronald Reagan was inaugurated | 18 |
| President, he inherited a disillusioned nation shackled by | 19 |
| rampant inflation and high unemployment; and
| 20 |
| WHEREAS, During Mr. Reagan's presidency he worked in a
| 21 |
| bipartisan manner to enact his bold agenda of restoring
| 22 |
| accountability and common sense to government which led to an
| 23 |
| unprecedented economic expansion and opportunity for millions
| 24 |
| of Americans; and | 25 |
| WHEREAS, President Reagan's commitment to our armed
forces | 26 |
| contributed to the restoration of pride in America,
her values | 27 |
| and those cherished by the free world, and
prepared America's | 28 |
| Armed Forces to meet 21st Century challenges; and | 29 |
| WHEREAS, President Reagan's vision of "peace through

| strength" led to the end of the Cold War and the ultimate
| 2 |
| demise of the Soviet Union, guaranteeing basic human rights
for | 3 |
| millions of people; and | 4 |
| WHEREAS, February 6, 2005 will be the 94th anniversary of | 5 |
| Ronald Reagan's birth and the first since his passing; | 6 |
| therefore, be it | 7 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
| 8 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF
REPRESENTATIVES | 9 |
| CONCURRING HEREIN, that we proclaim and recognize February
6, | 10 |
| 2005 and subsequent yearly anniversaries thereafter as "Ronald | 11 |
| Reagan Day" and urge all the citizens of Illinois to take | 12 |
| cognizance of this event and participate fittingly in its | 13 |
| observance.
