| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of LeRoy "Lee" W. Sackman of Waukegan, who | 4 | | passed away on July 10, 2013; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, LeRoy Sackman was born in 1923 in Waukegan and | 6 | | lived there most of his life; he graduated from Waukegan | 7 | | Township High School as the Most Valuable Senior Athlete and | 8 | | was invited to try out for the Chicago Cubs as a knuckleball | 9 | | pitcher; he attended the University of Illinois in | 10 | | Urbana-Champaign and served in the United States Army; he | 11 | | married Carol Jean Butler on February 5, 1955; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, LeRoy Sackman returned to Waukegan to run his | 13 | | family's business, Sackman Lumber and Coal Company, upon the | 14 | | passing of his father, Leo; in 1964, he changed careers and | 15 | | became a successful stock broker for over 40 years; and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, LeRoy Sackman had a passion for sports and enjoyed | 17 | | skiing on family vacations; he was a lifetime member and former | 18 | | president of the Glen Flora Country Club and played golf 3 to 5 | 19 | | times a week; he coached his son's Peanut League, Little | 20 | | League, and Pony League and always had the TV turned to the | 21 | | Cubs, Sox, Bears, Bulls, or Blackhawks; he never turned down an | 22 | | opportunity to toss the baseball around, shoot hoops, or play a |

| 1 | | couple of holes of golf before dark; and
| 2 | | WHEREAS, LeRoy Sackman was married to Carol for nearly 58 | 3 | | years before her passing; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, LeRoy Sackman had 3 children, Gary (Joyce), Lori, | 5 | | and Jean (Rob) and 7 grandchildren, Nick, Dan, Jake, Casey, | 6 | | Eric, Brian, and Tom; therefore, be it
| 7 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | 8 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 9 | | LeRoy W. Sackman, and extend our sincere condolences to his | 10 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 11 | | further
| 12 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 13 | | presented to the family of LeRoy Sackman as an expression of | 14 | | our deepest sympathy.
