| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 |
| learn of the death of Bessie Lee Redmond of Chicago, who passed | 4 |
| away on June 1, 2009; and
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Bessie Lee Redmond was affectionately known as | 6 |
| "Tee"; she was born on March 27, 1927 in Shelby, Mississippi to | 7 |
| the late Angeline Jackson and Henry Brinkley; she was the | 8 |
| youngest of 7 children, 4 sisters and 2 brothers who preceded | 9 |
| her in death; and
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, She was educated in the Bolivar County School | 11 |
| System; she accepted Jesus Christ at an early age; she joined | 12 |
| Beautiful Zion Missionary Baptist Church in 1968 under the | 13 |
| leadership of Reverend V.B. Harris; she later joined the Rock | 14 |
| of Love Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of | 15 |
| Reverend Samuel L. Douglas; she served in the church as a | 16 |
| member for 26 years and as President of the Usher Board; and
| 17 |
| WHEREAS, She moved to Chicago in 1948; and she married | 18 |
| William Redmond in 1969; and
| 19 |
| WHEREAS, Bessie Lee Redmond is survived by her daughter, | 20 |
| Bernice Liddell; her grandson, Ronald Williams; her | 21 |
| granddaughter, Shanti Liddell; her adopted daughters, Beverly |

| Redmond and Latricia Redmond; her 5 great-grandchildren; her | 2 |
| nephews, Fred Cherry, Samuel L. Douglas, Fernando Townsend, and | 3 |
| Punkin; her nieces, Annette Jones, Alberta Eison, and Roseanne | 4 |
| Campbell; and many other relatives and friends; therefore, be | 5 |
| it

| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL | 7 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | 8 |
| her family and friends, the passing of Bessie Lee Redmond; and | 9 |
| be it further
| 10 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 11 |
| presented to the family of Bessie Lee Redmond as a symbol of | 12 |
| our sincere sympathy.
