| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Mary Ann
Eckstein of Boulder, Colorado, | 4 | | formerly of Oak Park and Wheaton, on June 8, 2018 at
the age of | 5 | | 81; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Mary Ann Eckstein was born on April 12, 1937 in | 7 | | Chicago to Anna and Andrew
Miller, the youngest and only | 8 | | daughter of their four children; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Mary Ann Eckstein attended St. Mary's Catholic | 10 | | High School, where she made lifelong
best friends who called | 11 | | themselves "Marybelles"; she received her bachelor's degree | 12 | | and master's degree in teaching and taught for over 25 years in | 13 | | Oak Park Elementary School District 97; and | 14 | | WHEREAS, Mary Ann Eckstein had a love for learning and | 15 | | creative teaching methods that are
carried on by the teachers | 16 | | she mentored and the students that she inspired; she continued | 17 | | to teach
memory courses for adults at Triton College after her | 18 | | retirement from District 97; and | 19 | | WHEREAS, Mary Ann Eckstein was a very active member in the | 20 | | St. Giles Family Mass
Community, where she welcomed new | 21 | | members, edited "The Vineyard" newsletter and used her love of

| 1 | | puzzles and games to help plan the yearly treasure hunt; she | 2 | | was known to be a loving and
supportive friend to many; she had | 3 | | a sense of humor beyond compare and an abiding sense of
care | 4 | | for those around her; she was a dedicated supporter of the Oak | 5 | | Park Education
Foundation; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Mary Ann Eckstein learned to swim at the age of | 7 | | 67, so she could play in Lake
Michigan with her grandchildren; | 8 | | she "never ceased to be amazed by the beauty of the orange
| 9 | | sherbet sunset over Lake Michigan" and enjoyed her many years | 10 | | and the good times had in
Union Pier; and | 11 | | WHEREAS, Mary Ann Eckstein was preceded in death by her | 12 | | husband, Tom, her parents, and her
brothers, Larry, Ray, and | 13 | | Robert; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Mary Ann Eckstein is survived by her children, | 15 | | Henry, Anne, and Liz, and her
grandchildren, Jady and Amy | 16 | | Laura; therefore, be it
| 17 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | 18 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 19 | | Mary Ann Eckstein and extend our sincere condolences to her | 20 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | 21 | | further
