| 1 | | SENATE RESOLUTION
| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Angelo James "Al" Provenzano of Oak Park, | 4 | | who passed away on March 11, 2018; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Al Provenzano was born in Melrose Park to Gaspero | 6 | | and Maria Provenzano, who immigrated from Lappano in the | 7 | | Calabria region of Italy, on February 29, Leap Year Day, 1920; | 8 | | he attended Melrose Park Grade School and Proviso Township High | 9 | | School; he later became a longtime resident of Oak Park and a | 10 | | dedicated member of his church; he married Blanche "Bunny" Kmet | 11 | | in 1952; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Al Provenzano was working for the Charles Bruning | 13 | | Company in Chicago when he was drafted into the United States | 14 | | Army; he completed basic training at Camp Robinson, Arkansas | 15 | | and advanced infantry training at Camp Polk, Louisiana; he | 16 | | served during World War II and was a platoon sergeant | 17 | | responsible for shepherding his men across Europe from Omaha | 18 | | Beach to the brink of Berlin on D-Day, June 6, 1944; he was | 19 | | awarded the Purple Heart and five Battle Stars; and
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Al Provenzano was the co-owner of two businesses, | 21 | | Tru-Pal Pet Supplies and Dan-Al Tool and Die Company; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Al Provenzano loved marching in parades and | 2 | | occasionally visiting Hines V.A. Hospital to sing to the | 3 | | veterans; he was known for entertaining everyone with stories | 4 | | and songs he drew from his memory; he was adored by his next | 5 | | door neighbors of 32 years and enjoyed meeting his friends for | 6 | | breakfast and lunch and spending time at the Onion Roll | 7 | | restaurant; he was a caring friend to many; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Al Provenzano was preceded in death by his wife, | 9 | | Bunny; his brothers, Frank and Casper; and his sisters, Rose | 10 | | Aiuppa, Theresa Carpino, Helen Tantillo, and Josephine | 11 | | Karkula; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Al Provenzano is survived by his sisters, Florence | 13 | | Tantillo and Jeanne Holder; his sister-in-law, Muriel | 14 | | Provenzano; and his nieces and nephews and their many children | 15 | | and grandchildren; therefore, be it
| 16 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | 17 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 18 | | Angelo James "Al" Provenzano and extend our sincere condolences | 19 | | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be | 20 | | it further
| 21 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 22 | | presented to the family of Al Provenzano as an expression of |
