| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Simon Weltman of Skokie, who passed away | 4 | | on July 25, 2018; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Simon Weltman was born on July 20, 1918; he grew | 6 | | up in Magdeburg, Germany; his family moved to France in 1933 | 7 | | when the Nazis came to power; he left France for The British | 8 | | Mandate of Palestine in 1934 and helped found the Kibbutz of | 9 | | Ein Gev on the Sea of Galilee; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Simon Weltman spent six years in the British Army | 11 | | and fought in World War II; he fought in Israel's War of | 12 | | Independence and then spent 14 years in the Israeli Air Force, | 13 | | retiring as a captain; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Simon Weltman immigrated to the United States in | 15 | | 1963; he was a pioneer and helped instill in his children a | 16 | | sense of adventure, honesty, integrity, and the importance of | 17 | | an education; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Simon Weltman was proceeded in death by his wife, | 19 | | Margaret Weltman, and his sister, Sara Colin; and
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Simon Weltman is survived by his children, Varda |
