| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of John R. Sorensen of Woodstock, who passed | 4 | | away on April 22, 2018; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, John Sorensen was born in Woodstock to George and | 6 | | Geraldine Sorensen on December 29, 1947; he graduated from | 7 | | Woodstock High School in 1966; he then enlisted in the United | 8 | | States Army and was sent to Fort Belvoir, Virginia for engineer | 9 | | school; he spent the following year at Fort Bragg, North | 10 | | Carolina and then served in Vietnam for 15 months; he married | 11 | | Gail Bartram on May 12, 1972; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, John Sorensen worked for Eagle Foods for 31 years | 13 | | and Sam's Club for 13 years; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, John Sorensen dedicated his life to helping his | 15 | | fellow veterans; he was a charter member of Amvets Post 269, a | 16 | | life member, past commander, and past chaplain of the American | 17 | | Legion Post 412, a life member and two-time commander of the | 18 | | VFW Post 5040, a life member and past president of the McHenry | 19 | | County Vietnow Chapter, and a life member of DAV; and
| 20 | | WHEREAS, John Sorenson was a board member and team manager | 21 | | for Little League for more than ten years; he was a member of a |

| 1 | | group of 12 Woodstock residents called the "Woodstock Baseball | 2 | | Association"; they were responsible for building the "Dream | 3 | | Field" in City Park; he served as Committee Chairman of the | 4 | | Woodstock Memorial Day Parade, which he directed for eight | 5 | | years, and initiated the display of American flags at the | 6 | | Woodstock Square on patriotic holidays; and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, John Sorenson was preceded in death by his | 8 | | parents; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, John Sorenson is survived by his wife, Gail; his | 10 | | children, Robert (Lisa) Sorensen, Chrissy (Brian) Stotland, | 11 | | Karyn (Rob) Pourchot, and Toby (Becca) Sorensen; and his | 12 | | grandsons, Will, Justin, Charlie, Jake, and Josh; therefore, be | 13 | | it
| 14 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | 15 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 16 | | John R. Sorensen and extend our sincere condolences to his | 17 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 18 | | further
| 19 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 20 | | presented to the family of John Sorensen as an expression of | 21 | | our deepest sympathy.
