| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Donald B. "Don" Vanderventer of Waukegan, | 4 | | who passed away on February 5, 2019; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Don Vanderventer was born in Waukegan to Bernard | 6 | | and Anna on November 28, 1927; he graduated from Waukegan High | 7 | | School; he earned his bachelor's degree from Bradley University | 8 | | and his master's degree from Northern Illinois University; he | 9 | | served in the U.S. Marines from 1945 to 1949 and married Pat | 10 | | Nehring on September 16, 1950; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Don Vanderventer spent his career as a teacher and | 12 | | guidance counselor at Waukegan Public Schools from 1960 until | 13 | | retiring in 1988; prior to that, he worked for Johnson Motors | 14 | | as a traveling salesman in the Midwest; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Don Vanderventer enjoyed spending time with his | 16 | | family, fishing in Canada, watching Jeopardy, and working in | 17 | | his yard; he was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and the | 18 | | Chicago Cubs, so much so that he had a Cubs emblem engraved on | 19 | | his headstone; he volunteered at St. Anastasia School and was a | 20 | | frequent visitor at the Waukegan Public Library; and
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Don Vanderventer was preceded in death by his wife |

| 1 | | of 56 years, Pat; his son-in-law, Tom Lee; his parents; his | 2 | | sister, Marilyn; his brother, Richard; his brothers-in-law, | 3 | | Bill and George; his mother-in-law, Blanche; and his | 4 | | father-in-law, Shorty Nehring; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Don Vanderventer is survived by his children, Don | 6 | | (Mary Ellen), Scott (Cherri), Jim (Nan), Donna (Roy) Lee, and | 7 | | Leslie (Juan) Hernandez; his grandchildren, Katie, Cory, | 8 | | Dillon, Scotty, and Kelli; his step-granddaughter, Candace; | 9 | | and his great-grandchildren, Wesley, Whitney, and Preston | 10 | | Thomas; therefore, be it
| 11 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | 12 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 13 | | Donald B. "Don" Vanderventer of Waukegan and extend our sincere | 14 | | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved | 15 | | him; and be it further
| 16 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 17 | | presented to the family of Don Vanderventer as an expression of | 18 | | our deepest sympathy.
