| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois | 3 |
| learned with sadness of the death of James R. "Jim" Doody of | 4 |
| Naperville on Thursday, March 17, 2005; and | 5 |
| WHEREAS, He was born March 28, 1937, in Murphysboro to | 6 |
| Ashton and Vera (Shumacher) Doody; he graduated in 1961 from | 7 |
| Southern Illinois University in Carbondale with a bachelor of | 8 |
| arts in English; and | 9 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Doody had a passion and talent for writing; he | 10 |
| held positions in advertising and public relations at | 11 |
| Interchemical Corporation and was the director of public | 12 |
| information for Boatman's National Bank in St. Louis; he was | 13 |
| also the director of public information at the former | 14 |
| Monticello College (renamed Community College) in Godfrey; and | 15 |
| WHEREAS, In 1970, he joined the staff at North Central | 16 |
| College in Naperville as director of publicity and | 17 |
| publications; in 1985, he was appointed executive director at | 18 |
| North Central College in charge of the year-long 125th | 19 |
| anniversary celebration; he was also appointed director of | 20 |
| foundation relations at the college; he was the founder of | 21 |
| North Central College's performing arts association and was a | 22 |
| member for 24 years; he was instrumental in bringing | 23 |
| celebrities to the college such as Tony Bennett, Victor Borge, | 24 |
| Pat Boone, Rita Moreno, Carol Channing, Mel Torme, and the | 25 |
| Joffrey Ballet, during which time Ronald Reagan's son was a | 26 |
| member of the troupe; and | 27 |
| WHEREAS, He was a member of the Naperville Jaycees, and in | 28 |
| 1981, he received their distinguished service award for | 29 |
| Cultural and Historic Services; he was listed in the Who's Who | 30 |
| in the Midwest for 1978-79; he was the organizer and | 31 |
| participated in the Trade Show Showcase in 1977 and was |

| communications chairman for the 1976 U.S. bicentennial | 2 |
| celebration in Naperville; he was an accredited member of the | 3 |
| Public Relations Society of America, the Council for | 4 |
| Advancement and Support of Education, the Illinois College | 5 |
| Relations Conference, the Publicity Club of Chicago, the | 6 |
| American College of Public Relations Association, and the | 7 |
| DuPage Press Association; and | 8 |
| WHEREAS, He was a member of the board of directors and | 9 |
| chairman of the public relations committee for the Naperville | 10 |
| Chamber of Commerce in 1974, publicity chairman in 1974, and in | 11 |
| 1987, he was campaign chair for the Naperville Community Fund | 12 |
| (now the United Way) and public relations chairman for the | 13 |
| American Red Cross, West Area Region; he served as the chairman | 14 |
| of the communications committee from 1974 to 1976 for the | 15 |
| bicentennial celebration and publicity for the 1981 | 16 |
| sesquicentennial; from 1990 until his retirement in 1999, he | 17 |
| was a grant writer for the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn; | 18 |
| while at the COD, he received the Outstanding Service Award in | 19 |
| 1995; and | 20 |
| WHEREAS, He had an eclectic collection of recorded music, | 21 |
| including Broadway shows and movie film scores; he had been a | 22 |
| very active member of the Community United Methodist Church in | 23 |
| Naperville since 1969; at Community, he was the first male | 24 |
| secretary of the administration board, second-year disciple | 25 |
| Bible study, and played an instrumental part in writing the | 26 |
| history of the church for its 125th anniversary; and | 27 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of James R. "Jim" Doody has been | 28 |
| deeply felt by many, especially his wife, Mary Kay (Squires) | 29 |
| Doody; his son, Michael R. Doody; his daughter, Jane Ann | 30 |
| (husband James) McCloud; his sisters, Sharon (husband Richard) | 31 |
| Graff and Mary Ann (husband David) Taylor; his sister-in-law, | 32 |
| Fredia Doody; his granddaughters, Rebecca and Stephanie | 33 |
| McCloud; and his numerous nieces and nephews; he was preceded |

| in death by his parents, Ashton and Vera (Shumacher) Doody, and | 2 |
| his brother, Glenn Doody; therefore, be it | 3 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL | 4 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 5 |
| James R. "Jim" Doody, and we extend our deepest sympathy to his | 6 |
| family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 7 |
| further
| 8 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 9 |
| presented to his family as an expression of our sincerest | 10 |
| condolences.
