| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Etta Lerene Coker-Martin, who passed away | 4 | | on December 8, 2020; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Etta Coker-Martin was born to Mark and Mary Coker | 6 | | in Chicago on September 12, 1952; she graduated from Harrison | 7 | | High School in 1971 and then studied Human Services at Elmhurst | 8 | | College; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Etta Coker-Martin spent many years at Service | 10 | | Master working in the payroll department; she then found a | 11 | | passion for serving others and started at Park-River Forest | 12 | | High School as a college and career counselor and then became a | 13 | | teaching assistant for special needs students; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Etta Coker-Martin tutored for the Black Star | 15 | | Project and Answer Inc., provided mentorship for F.R.E.E. | 16 | | (Females Reaching for Educational
Excellence), and became the | 17 | | volunteer and outreach coordinator for Housing Forward; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Etta Coker-Martin was a valued member of Rock of | 19 | | Ages Baptist Church where she loved her fellowship with the | 20 | | Savvy Senior Ministry; she was also a proud member of the | 21 | | Bookends Book Club; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Etta Coker-Martin loved reading, her family, and | 2 | | her faith; she had a vivacious smile and found great joy in | 3 | | helping others; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Etta Coker-Martin was preceded in death by her | 5 | | father; her son, Justin Martin; and her lifelong special | 6 | | friend, Lynda Puckett; her mother soon joined her in passing; | 7 | | and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Etta Coker-Martin is survived by her daughter, | 9 | | Ebony Martin; her brother, Marlon Coker; her grandchildren, | 10 | | Elani Williams and Elise Reese; her nieces, Candice Conley and | 11 | | Dominique Johnson; and her many cousins and friends; therefore, | 12 | | be it
| 13 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | 14 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
| 15 | | Etta Lerene Coker-Martin and extend our sincere
condolences to | 16 | | her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
her; and be it | 17 | | further
| 18 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
| 19 | | presented to the family of Etta Coker-Martin as an expression | 20 | | of
our deepest sympathy.
