| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the deaths of Thomas Francis "Tom" Connelly, Ph.D., | 4 | | who passed away on December 3, 2020, and Ann Louise (Duffy) | 5 | | Connelly, who passed away on November 7, 2020; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Tom and Ann Connelly were married for 61 years; | 7 | | and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Tom Connelly was born on the West Side of Chicago | 9 | | to John and Ann (Rafter) Connelly; he was a long-time resident | 10 | | of La Grange; he earned his bachelor's degree in Classical | 11 | | Studies from Loyola University Chicago; he served in the U.S. | 12 | | Navy in the Navy Submarine Force and was based in Hawaii; he | 13 | | obtained his master's degree in Classics from the University of | 14 | | Kentucky; he earned his Doctor of Philosophy in Education | 15 | | Administration from Loyola University Chicago; and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Tom Connelly worked for Chicago Public Schools | 17 | | (CPS) his entire career; he began teaching Latin at South Shore | 18 | | High School, where he served as the faculty advisor of the | 19 | | award-winning Shoreline newspaper; after passing the | 20 | | principal's exam, he worked in the CPS administration for the | 21 | | remainder of his career; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Tom Connelly was passionate about tutoring | 2 | | students in Latin, from his own grandchildren and friends to | 3 | | the undergraduate students at Ave Maria University in Naples, | 4 | | Florida; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Ann Connelly was born on the West Side of Chicago; | 6 | | she was a long-time resident of La Grange; she graduated from | 7 | | St. Xaxier University; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Ann Connelly was a registered nurse and worked as | 9 | | a school nurse for Chicago Public Schools; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Ann Connelly especially enjoyed playing bridge | 11 | | with her college friends from St. Xavier University; she worked | 12 | | tirelessly for her family and at one point had 5 children, with | 13 | | the oldest being 3 1/2 years old; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Together, Tom and Ann Connelly enjoyed traveling | 15 | | the world with each other and their many friends; they loved | 16 | | doting on their grandchildren and great-grandchildren; they | 17 | | were deeply committed to their faith, and that faith was | 18 | | central to their love for one another; they will be missed; and
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Tom and Ann Connelly were preceded in death by | 20 | | Tom's brother, Jack; his twin brother, Francis Thomas; his | 21 | | sisters, Catherine and Winifred; Ann's brothers, James and |

| 1 | | David; and her sister, Mary Spradlin; and
| 2 | | WHEREAS, Tom and Ann Connelly were the parents of Mary | 3 | | (late Jerome) O'Rourke, Thomas (Amanda), Mark (Mary), Maureen | 4 | | (Martin) O'Connor, Michael (Lisa), Timothy (Noreen), and Ann | 5 | | Marie (John) Kavanagh; the grandparents of 23 grandchildren; | 6 | | the great-grandparents of three great-grandchildren; the | 7 | | brother and sister-in-law of Edward; and loved their 4-legged | 8 | | companion, Jesse James; therefore, be it
| 9 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | 10 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 11 | | Thomas Francis "Tom" Connelly, Ph.D. and Ann Louise (Duffy) | 12 | | Connelly and extend our sincere condolences to their family, | 13 | | friends, and all who knew and loved them; and be it further
| 14 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 15 | | presented to the family of Tom and Ann Connelly as an | 16 | | expression of our deepest sympathy.
