| HOUSE RESOLUTION
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, Hospice and palliative care provides patients and | 3 |
| families the highest quality care during life-limiting illness | 4 |
| and at the end of life, through pain management and symptom | 5 |
| control, caregiver training and assistance, and emotional and | 6 |
| spiritual support, allowing patients to live fully up until the | 7 |
| final moments, surrounded and supported by the faces of loved | 8 |
| ones, friends, and committed caregivers; and
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, Last year, more than 1.2 million Americans living | 10 |
| with life-limiting illness, and their families, received care | 11 |
| from the 4,000 hospice and palliative care programs in | 12 |
| communities throughout the United States; and
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, Professional and compassionate hospice staff, | 14 |
| including physicians, nurses, social workers, therapists, | 15 |
| counselors, health aides, and clergy, provided comprehensive | 16 |
| care focused on the wishes of each individual patient; and
| 17 |
| WHEREAS, More than 400,000 trained volunteers contribute | 18 |
| 18 million hours of service to hospice programs annually; and
| 19 |
| WHEREAS, Providing high-quality hospice and palliative | 20 |
| care reaffirms our belief in the essential dignity of every | 21 |
| person, regardless of age, health, or social status, and that | 22 |
| every stage of human life deserves to be treated with the | 23 |
| utmost respect and care; and
| 24 |
| WHEREAS, Hospice and palliative care providers encourage | 25 |
| all people to learn more about options of care and to share | 26 |
| their wishes with family, loved ones, and their healthcare | 27 |
| professionals; therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 29 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |

| we declare November of 2006 National Hospital/Palliative Care | 2 |
| Month in Illinois and encourage all citizens of the State of | 3 |
| Illinois to increase their understanding and awareness of care | 4 |
| at the end of life and to observe this month with appropriate | 5 |
| activities and programs.
