| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Tom Z. Dickerson of Rockford, who passed | 4 | | away on March 2, 2018; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Tom Dickerson was born in Cherokee, Oklahoma to | 6 | | Zearl and Retta (Wilson) Dickerson on August 22, 1934; he | 7 | | graduated from high school in Byron, Oklahoma; he served in the | 8 | | Army National Guard and was called into active duty during the | 9 | | Bay of Pigs incident with Cuba; he also served as a Sergeant | 10 | | with the United States Army Reserves Quartermasters Unit during | 11 | | the Korean War; in 1973, he married Earline; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Tom Dickerson started his career at Woodward | 13 | | Governor; during his early years, he was involved with the | 14 | | Rockford Rams football program; against advice from friends, he | 15 | | decided to pursue a career in real estate; his first venture | 16 | | was with Bridge & Dickerson Realtors; a few years later, he | 17 | | started Dickerson Realtors, where he began as a Real Estate | 18 | | Broker and them moved into investment property and home | 19 | | building with Ambassador Homes; he also worked in land | 20 | | development and was responsible for developing several | 21 | | subdivisions, including Olde Farm, Stonehedge, Mulford Hills, | 22 | | and Mulford Hills West; through acquisitions including Nieman | 23 | | Realtors, the company became Dickerson & Nieman Realtors in |

| 1 | | 1998; with five offices in three counties, it is still the | 2 | | largest real estate firm in the area today; and
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Tom Dickerson received numerous awards and | 4 | | recognitions, including being named Illinois Realtor of the | 5 | | Year and serving as President of the Board of Realtors; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Tom Dickerson was a member of Westminster | 7 | | Presbyterian Church and a supporter of the United Way; he was | 8 | | an avid golfer; he enjoyed spending time with his family and | 9 | | friends and always made them laugh with his sense of humor and | 10 | | wit; he was always there to help others, as a father, father | 11 | | figure, grandfather, and mentor; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Tom Dickerson was preceded in death by his parents | 13 | | and his siblings, Bill Dickerson and Betty Sumner; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Tom Dickerson is survived by his wife, Earline; | 15 | | his children, Karen (Doug Page) Dickerson, Tom Keith Dickerson, | 16 | | Cindy (Keith) Kelly, Andrew (Sean), Wehrstein, Candace Ross, | 17 | | and Frank (Jennifer) Wehrstein; his grandchildren, Adam J. | 18 | | (Daniela) Dyer, Kristina Kelly, Shannon Kelly, Stephanie Ross, | 19 | | Erica Ross, Reilley Wehrstein, Ashley Wehrstein, Frank | 20 | | Wehrstein Jr., and Ashley Dickerson; and his many nieces and | 21 | | nephews; therefore, be it
