| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Bette Jean Harris of Alton, who passed | 4 | | away on January 22, 2016; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Bette Harris was born in Judsonia, Arkansas to | 6 | | Thomas G., Sr. and Lena (nee Jackson) Bailey on January 16, | 7 | | 1933; she married Wiley L. Harris, Jr. in Alton on October 10, | 8 | | 1953; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Bette Harris worked for the Tri County Beauty | 10 | | Academy in Litchfield with her mother; she later worked as a | 11 | | cosmetology instructor for the J.B. Johnson Vocational School | 12 | | in Alton; she went back to school and completed her bachelor's | 13 | | degree in 1984 and became an English teacher at West Middle | 14 | | School, where she taught for 10 years; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Bette Harris was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal | 16 | | Church, the Illinois Hairdresser Association, the Illinois | 17 | | Retired Teachers Association, the Alton Community Service | 18 | | League, and P.E.O. Chapter JZ; and
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Bette Harris was preceded in death by her husband, | 20 | | Wiley; her parents; and her brother, Thomas Bailey, Jr.; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Bette Harris is survived by her daughter, Barbara | 2 | | Ann Bowen (Andy); her son, Thomas Wiley Harris (Judy Jones); | 3 | | her brother-in-law, Joseph Eugene Harris; her loving care | 4 | | giver, Viola Link, along with Tonya and Candace; therefore, be | 5 | | it
| 6 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | 7 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 8 | | Bette Jean Harris, and extend our sincere condolences to her | 9 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | 10 | | further
| 11 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 12 | | presented to the family of Bette Harris as an expression of our | 13 | | deepest sympathy.
