| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the | 3 |
| State of Illinois learned with sadness of the death of Don E. | 4 |
| Peacock of Mt. Vernon on July 27, 2006, after a valiant battle | 5 |
| against cancer; and
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Peacock was born on August 29, 1939, in | 7 |
| Jefferson County to Henry Harrison Peacock and Beatrice Fern | 8 |
| (Hughey) Peacock; and
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, He was the owner and operator of Peacock Printing | 10 |
| in Mt. Vernon from 1977 to 2001; he served his country as a | 11 |
| member of the U.S. Army in Korea during peace time; and
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, He was a member of Logan Street Baptist Church, | 13 |
| the Mt. Vernon Kiwanis (past president and past district | 14 |
| lieutenant governor Southern Illinois), the Sweet Corn and | 15 |
| Watermelon Festival, the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce | 16 |
| (Commission Citizen of the Year in 2000 and Small Business Man | 17 |
| of the Year in 1990), the Jefferson County Historical Society, | 18 |
| the Mt. Vernon Elks Lodge, the Eagles Lodge, the Moose Lodge, | 19 |
| the AMVETS, the VFW, and the American Legion; and
| 20 |
| WHEREAS, During his valiant battle with cancer, Mr. Peacock | 21 |
| served as the Grand Marshall of the Jefferson County Relay for | 22 |
| Life on June 2-3, 2006, at Veterans Park; and
| 23 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Peacock had served on the boards of the | 24 |
| Jefferson County Epilepsy Foundation, St. Mary's Home Health, | 25 |
| and the Jefferson County Crime Stoppers; he was an Honorary | 26 |
| Member of the Mt. Vernon Jaycees and active in the Southern | 27 |
| Illinois Employee Relations Association Greater Egypt Planning | 28 |
| Commission, the Jefferson County Relay for Life, the YMCA of | 29 |
| Jefferson County, Big Brother Big Sisters, Jefferson County | 30 |
| Toys for Kids, Minority Affairs and Human Relations, and the |

| American Cancer Society - Road to Recovery; and
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Don E. Peacock has been deeply felt | 3 |
| by many, especially his sons, Michael Lee Peacock and wife | 4 |
| Karen, Mark Alan Peacock and wife Ann, Jeffrey Dean Peacock, | 5 |
| and Donald Gene Peacock and wife Catherine; his stepdaughters, | 6 |
| Jamie Ann Longmire and husband John and Carrie Jewell Smith and | 7 |
| husband Mark; his grandchildren, Kristy Williams, Rebecca | 8 |
| Michelle Marquis, Lori Peacock, Leslie Peacock, Daniel | 9 |
| Fortman, Amie, Taylor, Ian, Anna, and William Peacock, Trevor, | 10 |
| Alec, and Rita Groh, Jonathan and Zachary Longmire, and Lacy | 11 |
| and Grant Smith; his great-grandchildren, Gabriel Daniels, | 12 |
| Hunter Braden, and Malik Groh; and his many nieces and nephews; | 13 |
| he was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Wanda | 14 |
| Cocker; and his brother, Larry Peacock; therefore, be it
| 15 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 16 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 17 |
| we mourn the passing of Don E. Peacock, and we extend our | 18 |
| deepest sympathy to his family, his friends, and all who knew | 19 |
| and loved him; and be it further
| 20 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 21 |
| presented to his family as an expression of our sincerest | 22 |
| condolences.
