| 1 | | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| 2 | | WHEREAS, Next year, 2011, will mark the 70th year since the | 3 | | United States was attacked by Japan, an attack that was quickly | 4 | | followed by declarations of war against our country by Germany | 5 | | and Italy; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, It is appropriate for Illinois, its political | 7 | | leaders, institutions and local governments to recognize the | 8 | | profound and lasting effect that World War II has had on our | 9 | | society and our State; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Those who have actually participated in those | 11 | | events will soon be gone forever; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, The State's educational, civic, and veterans | 13 | | organizations share a responsibility to assist in preserving | 14 | | our history when the entire country was united; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Those sacrifices and that history should never be | 16 | | neglected or forgotten; therefore, be it
| 17 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 18 | | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 19 | | the Constitutional Officers, State Board of Education, | 20 | | Department of Veterans Affairs, together with civic, |

| 1 | | educational, and patriotic organizations be urged to implement | 2 | | appropriate ways in which the values and the sacrifices of | 3 | | those who participated in World War II can be remembered, | 4 | | appreciated, and understood; and be it further
| 5 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 6 | | presented to the Constitutional Officers, State Board of | 7 | | Education, and Department of Veterans Affairs.
