| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of
Jon | 4 | | Alexander Daye, who passed away on July 8, 2010; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Jon Daye was well known by many for being on the | 6 | | cutting edge of the 21st century; in the early 1970s, he began | 7 | | appearing on talk television, where he chose topics regarding | 8 | | the African-American community at large; through his shows, he | 9 | | provided a forum for black candidates, judges, aldermen and | 10 | | county officials to express their message to the community; his | 11 | | guests included former Chicago Mayors Harold Washington and | 12 | | Eugene Sawyer; he and his shows were also instrumental in the | 13 | | election of U.S. Senator Roland Burris and Cook County Board | 14 | | President Todd Stroger; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Jon Daye was a radio personality on WVON Radio's | 16 | | "On Target"; he was a television talk show host on Star Planet | 17 | | Television Network, Cable Channel 25; he was also the host of | 18 | | "Straight Talk", which led to his own show, "News Talk", on | 19 | | Rev. Harold Bailey's PCC Network; and
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Jon Daye was an author and the founder and | 21 | | president of several worthwhile awards, including the coveted | 22 | | Kizzy Award, which recognized women for their professional |

| 1 | | accomplishments and community service, the Success Awards, | 2 | | which recognized men for their distinguished accomplishments, | 3 | | and the Black Woman Hall of Fame Foundation, which recognized a | 4 | | long list of women luminaries with the Bethune-Tubman Truth | 5 | | Award; through his various awards programs, he reached out to | 6 | | innumerable local and national "dignitaries" - recipients of | 7 | | his awards; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Jon Daye is survived by his fiancee, Bernadine | 9 | | Whiteurst; his daughters, Christy Robinson (Dore) and Tracy | 10 | | Landing; his grandchildren; and his many other family members | 11 | | and friends; therefore, be it
| 12 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 13 | | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | 14 | | mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Jon | 15 | | Alexander Daye; and be it further
| 16 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 17 | | presented to the family of Jon Daye as an expression of our | 18 | | sympathy.
