| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Seferino "Don" Perez of Moline, who | 4 | | passed away on May 14, 2020; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Don Perez was born to Joseph and Francisca | 6 | | (Cervantes) Perez in Moline on August 6, 1931; he was a U.S. | 7 | | Army Veteran who served during the occupation of Japan, the | 8 | | occupation of Germany, and the Korean War, where he | 9 | | participated in the five main campaigns, including the Inchon | 10 | | Landing, the Liberation of Seoul, and the Battle of Chosin | 11 | | Reservoir;
Don married Esther Belman in Silvis on December 28, | 12 | | 1957; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Don Perez retired from the former John Deere | 14 | | Planter in Moline; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Don Perez was a member of St. Mary's Church in | 16 | | Moline, the Ybarra VFW, American Legion Post 246, and the | 17 | | American GI Form; he also volunteered as a crossing guard at | 18 | | the former Erikson Grade School in Moline; and
| 19 | | WHEREAS, In his earlier years, Don Perez enjoyed playing | 20 | | football, watching Western movies, especially John Wayne | 21 | | movies, and listening to Mexican music; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Don Perez was preceded in death by his son, | 2 | | Vincent; his daughter, Lydia; and his granddaughter, Sasha | 3 | | Perez; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Don Perez is survived by his wife, Esther; his | 5 | | children, John (Jim) Perez, Julius (Andrea) Perez, Mike (Mike) | 6 | | Perez, Benita (Dan) Perez-DeLoach, and Andrew (Merry) Perez; | 7 | | his 11 grandchildren; his 11 great-grandchildren; and his | 8 | | brother, Jesse Perez; therefore, be it
| 9 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | 10 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
| 11 | | Seferino "Don" Perez and extend our sincere
condolences to his | 12 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved
him; and be it | 13 | | further
| 14 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
| 15 | | presented to the family of Don Perez as an expression of
