| 1 | | SENATE RESOLUTION
| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Ulice "Uke" Strickland of Chicago, who | 4 | | passed away on April 27, 2014; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Ulice Strickland was born in Greenville, | 6 | | Mississippi on December 2, 1927 to Theodore Strickland and | 7 | | Odessa Walker; he moved to Chicago and attended Medill Grammar | 8 | | and High School; he married Florence Kelly on April 8, 1951; | 9 | | and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Ulice Strickland worked at Fulton Markets and then | 11 | | the Chicago Housing Authority; he eventually began working for | 12 | | the Chicago Police Department and spent 29 years with the | 13 | | Department in the Traffic Division; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Ulice Strickland was a member of Ebenezer Lutheran | 15 | | Church starting in June of 1966, and then First Immanuel | 16 | | Lutheran in 1997; and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Ulice Strickland was preceded in death by his | 18 | | parents; sisters, Theal Colbert and Lauvarge Black; and | 19 | | brother, Willie (Roberta) Strickland; and
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Ulice Strickland is survived by his daughter, |

| 1 | | Elaine; son, Eric (Diahann); brothers-in-law, James Worsham | 2 | | and Dennis Kelly; grandchildren, Eric Matthew, Mark Terry, Eric | 3 | | Dane, and Nicole Monet; great-grandchild, Anthony Dane; | 4 | | numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and a | 5 | | host of other relatives and friends; therefore, be it
| 6 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | 7 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 8 | | Ulice "Uke" Strickland, and extend our sincere condolences to | 9 | | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 10 | | further
| 11 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 12 | | presented to the family of Ulice Strickland as an expression of | 13 | | our deepest sympathy.
