| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of James A. "Jim" Doerfler, who passed away | 4 | | on April 17, 2020; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Jim Doerfler was born in Springfield to Fred W. | 6 | | and Pauline C. (Schmelter) Doerfler on July 25, 1929; he served | 7 | | in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and married Rita R. | 8 | | Patton in Springfield in 1952; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Jim Doerfler was a professional engineer in | 10 | | Illinois and a registered land surveyor in Illinois, Missouri, | 11 | | Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Indiana, and Kentucky; he retired | 12 | | from the engineering consulting firm of Crawford, Murphy and | 13 | | Tilly in January of 1991; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Jim Doerfler was a member of the National Society | 15 | | of Professional Engineers Illinois, the Illinois Society of | 16 | | Professional Engineers, the Missouri Association of Registered | 17 | | Land Surveyors, the American Congress on Survey and Mapping, | 18 | | the American Arbitration Associations, the International Right | 19 | | of Way Association, and the Knights of Columbus; and
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Jim Doerfler was preceded in death by his parents; | 21 | | his brothers, Robert, Gene, and George Doerfler; and his |

| 1 | | sisters, Shirley Ann Doerfler and Mary C. "Mae" Chambers; and
| 2 | | WHEREAS, Jim Doerfler is survived by his wife, Rita; his | 3 | | sons, David (Karen), Michael (Becky), Steve (Nancy), Terry | 4 | | (Susan), and Darrin (Dana) Doerfler; his daughter, Merrie Karen | 5 | | (Michael) Hiefner; 17 grandchildren; and 24 | 6 | | great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
| 7 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | 8 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 9 | | James A. "Jim" Doerfler and extend our sincere condolences to | 10 | | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 11 | | further
