SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Joe Vojacek of Oak Park, who passed
4away on April 24, 2022 at the age of 82; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Joe Vojacek was born to Joseph Vojacek Jr. and
6Camille Sima Vojacek in Chicago; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Joe Vojacek was a lifelong resident of Chicago,
8though he attended high school in the suburbs at Riverside
9Brookfield High School and was a part of the class of 1958; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Joe Vojacek began his studies in English at North
11Central College in Naperville before transferring to the
12University of Chicago, where he graduated with a Bachelor of
13Arts in English; he later earned an Master of Arts in English
14Literature in 1964; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Joe Vojacek married his wife, Marti, in 1983, and
16their household included Marti's three daughters; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Joe Vojacek had a long career in teaching,
18spending most of his time at the Malcolm X College campus of
19the City Colleges of Chicago, where he earned tenure as a
20professor of English; he especially enjoyed teaching

1humanities courses, where he blended literature, film, music,
2graphic arts, and other cultural representations; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Joe Vojacek enrolled in the Ph.D. program in
4English at Loyola University Chicago but withdrew from the
5program to pursue his passion for antiquing; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Joe Vojacek and his wife traveled the Midwest in
7search of antique furniture; they valued vintage advertising,
8artifacts, ephemera, arcade machines, and all things related
9to history and the practice of stage magic; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Joe Vojacek retired from teaching in 2000; he and
11his wife moved shortly after to Oak Park to spend more time
12with their grandchildren; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Joe Vojacek enjoyed music, poetry, art, film,
14photography, and antiquing; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Joe Vojacek was preceded in death by his wife,
16Marti; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Joe Vojacek is survived by his stepdaughters,
18Deborah Morrow, Rebecca Morrow, and Elisabeth Morrow and his
19step-grandsons, Elias Weinberg and Leo Weinberg; therefore, be

1    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
2ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
3Joe Vojacek and extend our sincere condolences to his family,
4friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
5    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6presented to the family of Joe Vojacek as an expression of our
7deepest sympathy.
