| 1 | | SENATE RESOLUTION | 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | 3 | | to learn of the death of Rev. Dr. Dan Smith of New Haven, | 4 | | Missouri, who passed away on September 29, 2023; and | 5 | | WHEREAS, Rev. Smith, the son of Edward and Bette Smith, | 6 | | was born in Connersville, Indiana on June 21, 1956; he | 7 | | received his bachelor's degree from Indiana University and his | 8 | | Master of Divinity from Methodist Theological Seminary in | 9 | | Ohio; he later earned his doctorate from Western Theological | 10 | | Seminary in Holland, Michigan in 2011; and | 11 | | WHEREAS, Rev. Smith served as a Methodist minister for 20 | 12 | | years before joining the United Church of Christ (UCC); at the | 13 | | time of his passing, he was serving at St. Peter's UCC in New | 14 | | Haven, Missouri; and | 15 | | WHEREAS, Rev. Smith loved taking rides on his | 16 | | Harley-Davidson, and he was part of various Harley-Davidson | 17 | | riding groups; he also enjoyed playing the drums, listening to | 18 | | classic rock and roll, reading a good book, and watching | 19 | | movies; and | 20 | | WHEREAS, Rev. Smith was devoted to his family, and he | 21 | | always made sure to stay in touch by phone or text; he never |

| 1 | | knew a stranger and would do anything to help someone in need; | 2 | | and | 3 | | WHEREAS, Rev. Smith was the father of Micah Smith, the | 4 | | brother of Sande (Smith) and Randy Hardy, and the uncle of | 5 | | several nieces and nephews; therefore, be it | 6 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | 7 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 8 | | Rev. Dr. Dan Smith and extend our sincere condolences to his | 9 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 10 | | further | 11 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 12 | | presented to the family of Rev. Smith as an expression of our | 13 | | deepest sympathy. |
