| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois | 3 |
| were saddened to learn of the death of Noel Hoyt of Evanston on | 4 |
| February 29, 2004; and
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Nole Hoyt lived in Evanston since 1965; after | 6 |
| graduation from Marymount College in New York, she worked as an | 7 |
| ad writer for Carson Pirie Scott & Co. in Chicago; she then | 8 |
| dedicated herself to raising her 6 children, and her marriage | 9 |
| to Tom Hoyt; and | 10 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Hoyt remained active in the family publishing | 11 |
| business as a proof reader and worked as a precinct captain | 12 |
| with the Democratic Party of Evanston for many years; through | 13 |
| the 60s and 70s she struggled with addiction to amphetamines | 14 |
| and alcohol; a personal triumph was that after entering | 15 |
| recovery in 1983, she remained sober for the rest of her life; | 16 |
| and | 17 |
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Hoyt was best loved for her adventurous and | 18 |
| fun-loving nature; she turned her bedroom into a 15th century | 19 |
| Italian Villa by hiring a professional artist to paint all four | 20 |
| walls, the doors, and the ceiling in the "trompe l'oeil" style; | 21 |
| among her many adventures, Noel took her daughters hot-air | 22 |
| ballooning in the Loire Valley of France, and talked her way | 23 |
| into the college age work crew for a summer long architectural | 24 |
| dig at an Etruscan ruin in La Pieta, Italy; she performed as a | 25 |
| supernumerary in a recent performance of the Chicago Opera, | 26 |
| where her stage instructions included, "Swoosh in. Swoosh | 27 |
| out."; and

| WHEREAS, Mrs. Hoyt loved architecture, and would brazenly | 29 |
| talk her way into off-limits architectural gems, from the | 30 |
| library at Trinity College in Dublin to Lincoln Park mansions | 31 |
| undergoing renovations; and |

| WHEREAS, To facilitate her adventures she printed phony | 2 |
| business cards for herself and friend Jess Cunniff, stating | 3 |
| that they were respectively the "President" and "Chairman" of | 4 |
| the "Urban Studies Institute"; with their card and the | 5 |
| statement, "We are architectural historians", Noel and Jess | 6 |
| breezed past security guards and workmen; and | 7 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Noel Hoyt will be deeply felt by | 8 |
| many, especially her children, Joshua (Joanna Brown) Hoyt, Amy | 9 |
| (Jim) Knowlton, Darcy Hoyt, Peter (Peggy) Hoyt, Phoebe (Guido) | 10 |
| Volla, and Nathaniel Hoyt; her 10 grandchildren; her brother, | 11 |
| Robert (Sheila) Berner; and her former husband and lifelong | 12 |
| friend, Tom Hoyt; therefore, be it
| 13 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL | 14 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the death of | 15 |
| Noel Hoyt along with all who knew and loved her and extend our | 16 |
| sincere condolences to her family and friends; and be it | 17 |
| further
| 18 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 19 |
| presented to the family of Noel Hoyt as a token of our deepest | 20 |
| sympathy.
