SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Earnest Lee Vaughns of Rock Island,
4who passed away on October 4, 2022; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Earnest Vaughns was born to Elliard "Jack" and
6Arletha (White) Vaughns in Eudora, Arkansas on February 14,
71951; he grew up in Kenosha, Wisconsin where he graduated from
8high school; on June 10, 1969, he enlisted in the U.S. Air
9Force and served until March 1, 1973, when he was honorably
10discharged and returned to Wisconsin; he married Sandra Smith
11in St. Louis, Missouri on December 27, 1980; and
 
12    WHEREAS, After his military service, Earnest Vaughns moved
13to St. Louis, Missouri and began a career with the federal
14government; after moving to Middletown, Iowa, he worked for
15the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant; in 1984, he began his
16employment as a safety specialist at the Rock Island Arsenal,
17where he worked until his retirement in 2005; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Earnest Vaughns enjoyed fishing, golfing,
19photography, making videos, and going to the casino and
20playing the slot machines; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Earnest Vaughns was preceded in death by his

1parents and his siblings, Willie Gaston and Catherine Lay; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Earnest Vaughns is survived by his wife of 41
3years, Sandra; his children, Shondria (Matthew) Brady and
4Earnest Vaughns II; his grandchildren, Romeo Thomas and Trevor
5Sims; his siblings, Stella Lucas, Michael Brown, Charles
6Brown, and Janet Brown-Crockett; and many other relatives and
7friends; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
10Earnest Lee Vaughns and extend our sincere condolences to his
11family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
12further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Earnest Vaughns as an expression of
15our deepest sympathy.
