| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | 3 | | to learn of the death of Salome Bobbie Matthews Wallace of | 4 | | Richmond Heights, Florida, who passed away on July 16, 2022; | 5 | | and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Salome Wallace was born to Lee Matthews and | 7 | | Corrine Cottle-Matthews in Buenavista, Georgia on September | 8 | | 15, 1931; she graduated from George Washington Carver High | 9 | | School in 1951; she married Emery Lee Wallace, and they moved | 10 | | to Richmond Heights in 1952; she attended Nova University and | 11 | | Florida International University, where she earned her | 12 | | master's degree in Social Work and Early Childhood Education; | 13 | | and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Early in her career, Salome Wallace served the | 15 | | South Miami community through the Economic Opportunity Program | 16 | | Inc. (E.O.P.I.) neighborhood center that provided food and | 17 | | clothing to low-income families; she later created the Teen | 18 | | Center, where she was able to employ the youth in the community | 19 | | and train them to enter the workforce; she went on to direct | 20 | | Head Start programs across Dade County; she taught and led in | 21 | | Florida City, Homestead, Perrine, Brownsville, Little Haiti, | 22 | | and Opa Locka; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Salome Wallace was known as a "village mom" in | 2 | | Richmond Heights, serving as a mother to anyone who needed | 3 | | one; she will be remembered for being a pillar and a pioneer of | 4 | | her community for over 70 years; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Salome Wallce was preceded in death by her | 6 | | parents; her sister; and her oldest daughter, Vanessa Wallace | 7 | | Maultsey; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Salome Wallace is survived by her sons, Emery Lee | 9 | | Wallace Jr., Keith Dale Wallace, and Mark (Rosie) Johnathan | 10 | | Wallace; her son-in-law, Willie "Turk" Hayward; her surrogate | 11 | | son, Elmo Dotson; her daughter, Ellery Wallace Hayward; her | 12 | | surrogate daughters, Dot Lee and Jackie Wright; her grandsons, | 13 | | Antwuan Tremayne Wallace, Emery Lee Wallace III, Bernard | 14 | | (Theresa) Larry Hudson Jr., Mark Johnathan Hudson, Willie | 15 | | (Keisha) George Hayward Jr., and Aja (Kayontae) Kareem | 16 | | Hayward; her granddaughters, Amber (Robert) Lanay Hayward-Carr | 17 | | and Katie Lee Maultsby; her great-grandsons, Bernard Hudson | 18 | | III, Emery Wallace IV, Dariyus Maultsby, Robert Carr III, Siah | 19 | | Hayward, Zane Wallace, Mark Hudson Jr., Julius Telfair Jr., | 20 | | Akachi Hayward, and Azziah Hudson; her great-granddaughters, | 21 | | Charkyla D., Tahlaya Hudson, Vanessa Hudson, Ni'Kiyah Hudson, | 22 | | Erin Wallace, Briell Robinson, Nala Hayward, Aobrie Carr, | 23 | | Damariah Hudson, and Skylar Hudson; her great-great-grandsons, | 24 | | Jayceon Smith, Dion Hill III, Diondre Hill, and Di'Anthony |

| 4 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | 5 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 6 | | Salome Bobbie Matthews Wallace and extend our sincere | 7 | | condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved | 8 | | her; and be it further
| 9 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 10 | | presented to the family of Salome Wallace as an expression of | 11 | | our deepest sympathy.
