AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 677

2    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend Senate Bill 677 by replacing
3everything after the enacting clause with the following:
 
4    "Section 5. The Department of Professional Regulation Law
5of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois is amended by
6adding Section 2105-365 as follows:
 
7    (20 ILCS 2105/2105-365 new)
8    Sec. 2105-365. Continuing education; Alzheimer's disease
9and other dementias.
10    (a) As used in this Section, "health care professional"
11means a person licensed or registered by the Department under
12the following Acts: the Medical Practice Act of 1987, the
13Nurse Practice Act, the Clinical Psychologist Licensing Act,
14the Illinois Optometric Practice Act of 1987, the Illinois
15Physical Therapy Act, the Physician Assistant Practice Act of
161987, the Clinical Social Work and Social Work Practice Act,

1the Nursing Home Administrators Licensing and Disciplinary
2Act, the Illinois Occupational Therapy Practice Act, the
3Podiatric Medical Practice Act of 1987, the Respiratory Care
4Practice Act, the Professional Counselor and Clinical
5Professional Counselor Licensing and Practice Act, and the
6Illinois Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Practice Act.
7    (b) For license or registration renewals occurring on or
8after January 1, 2023, a health care professional who has
9continuing education requirements must complete at least a
10one-hour course in training on the diagnosis, treatment, and
11care of individuals with Alzheimer's disease and other
12dementias per renewal period. This training shall include, but
13not be limited to, assessment and diagnosis, effective
14communication strategies, and management and care planning.
15This requirement shall only apply to health care professionals
16who provide health care services to adult populations age 26
17or older in the practice of their profession. A health care
18professional may count this one hour for completion of this
19course toward meeting the minimum credit hours required for
20continuing education. Any training on Alzheimer's disease and
21other dementias applied to meet any other State licensure
22requirement, professional accreditation or certification
23requirement, or health care institutional practice agreement
24may count toward the continuing education requirement under
25this Section.
26    (c) The Department may adopt rules for the implementation

2    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
3becoming law.".
