| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of | 4 | | Marguerite Ann "Marge" (Phillips) Britton of Chicago, who | 5 | | passed away on April 8, 2022; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Marge Britton was born in Chicago on July 7, | 7 | | 1937; she lived in the Edgewater neighborhood of Chicago her | 8 | | entire life;
she attended St. Gregory the Great High School | 9 | | and graduated from Mundelein College in 1959, where she | 10 | | founded the debate team and worked on the Skyscraper student | 11 | | newspaper; she married Harold F. "Hal" Britton on September | 12 | | 23, 1961; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Marge Britton worked for the Lerner Newspaper and | 14 | | then the Skokie News, where she served as the feature editor; | 15 | | she also worked in public relations for the Chicago Realtors | 16 | | Association; and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Marge Britton was a lifelong Democrat; she worked | 18 | | and volunteered for a number of political candidates in | 19 | | Chicago and across Illinois;
she worked for the City of | 20 | | Chicago and for multiple elected officials, including | 21 | | Alderwoman Marion Volini as her chief of staff and for | 22 | | Alderwoman Mary Ann Smith; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Marge Britton founded the Lakewood Balmoral | 2 | | Residents' Council (LRBC) in 1969, where she served as | 3 | | president from 1970 to 1972;
she then served as a community | 4 | | organizer, helping others create their own neighborhood | 5 | | groups; she was vice-president of the Edgewater Community | 6 | | Council from 1974 to 1985 and was a member of the Publicity | 7 | | Club of Chicago; and | 8 | | WHEREAS, Marge Britton was affectionately known as | 9 | | "Mother" and "Nana" to her family; she was also known as "Mom | 10 | | Britton", serving as an honorary mother to hundreds of | 11 | | Edgewater children; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Marge Britton was the beloved wife of 53 years of | 13 | | the late Harold F. Britton; the loving mother of Cynthia | 14 | | (Scott) Tomeczko Britton, Marjorie (Chris) Karabas, Christine | 15 | | (Michael) Valadez, John (Elena Chugai) Britton, James (Tanya), | 16 | | and the late Joseph Britton; the cherished grandmother of | 17 | | Angelina, Molly, Luke, Chloe, Phoebe, Elliott, Cameron, | 18 | | Patrick, Sean, and Polina; and the dear sister of the late Hope | 19 | | Phillips; therefore, be it
