HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, James "Jim" Michael Gainer, second child and second son born to Francis and Mary Gainer at Little Company of Mary Hospital, is celebrating his 80th year of life on May 20th, 2021; and

WHEREAS, Jim Gainer has affectionately been referred to as son, brother, husband, uncle, father, friend, patrolman, officer, sergeant, Seamus, Mr. Gainer, bingo police, and Gymm during the course of the last of the last 80 years; and

WHEREAS, Jim Gainer was educated in the Catholic traditions, under the tutelage of the Sisters of Notre Dame at Saint Margaret of Scotland, graduating in 1955, the Augustinians at Mendel Catholic High School, graduating in 1959, and the Sisters of Mercy at Saint Xavier University, graduating on May 22, 1985; and

WHEREAS, On October 1, 1963, Jim Gainer was hired by the Chicago Police Department to serve as a patrolman; he was assigned to the Crime Lab in March of 1967; by the time he retired on June 22, 1996, he was the chief firearms examiner of the Chicago Crime Lab; and

WHEREAS, On July 3, 1996, Jim Gainer was hired by the Illinois State Police as head of Forensics; he retired from the Illinois State Police Department on July 5, 2000; and

WHEREAS, On April 29th, 1966, Jim Gainer had the good sense to ask Anne Therese Keane to be his bride; on September 10, 1966, he made good on that promise with the blessings of Father John Keane; and

WHEREAS, From 1967 to 1975, Jim Gainer became a loving father and mentor to Katie, Jimmy, Julie, Mike and Moira; from 1993 to 2001, he became father-in-law to Pat, Sue, Jen, Katy, and Clayton; from 1997 to 2011, he became Papa to Nellie, Jake, Mati, Ben, Emma, Mia, JP, Quinn, Macayla, Shea, and Griff; and

WHEREAS, Jim Gainer, in a quest for a balanced life and with a thirst for learning, pursued and mastered many hobbies, including but not limited to running, fishing, hunting, bagpipes, darts, photography, carpentry, scuba diving, camping, and collecting shot glasses from around the world; and

WHEREAS, For the last 80 years, Jim Gainer has lived a life of service to his community and country by being trustworthy, curious, friendly, kind, loving, faithful, brave, funny, loyal, and wise; he has passed along skills, knowledge, respect, and love to the people he has met in his travels, and all are better from knowing him; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate James "Jim" Michael Gainer on the occasion of his 80th Birthday and wish him many more years of health and happiness; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this be presented to Jim Gainer as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
