SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
305 ILCS 5/12-4.54 new

    Amends the Illinois Public Aid Code. Requires the Department of Human Services to adopt rules that permit recipients of benefits provided under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, the Women, Infant, and Children (WIC) program, and the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program to use their benefits to purchase menstrual hygiene products. Requires the Department to apply for any waiver or State Plan amendment, if required, to implement the provisions of the amendatory Act. Provides that implementation shall be contingent on federal approval.

1    AN ACT concerning public aid.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Illinois Public Aid Code is amended by
5adding Section 12-4.54 as follows:
 
6    (305 ILCS 5/12-4.54 new)
7    Sec. 12-4.54. SNAP, TANF, WIC; menstrual hygiene products.
8The Department of Human Services shall adopt rules that permit
9recipients of benefits provided under the Supplemental
10Nutrition Assistance Program, the Women, Infant, and Children
11(WIC) program, and the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families
12program established under Article IV of this Code to use their
13benefits to purchase menstrual hygiene products. The
14Department shall apply for any waiver or State Plan amendment,
15if required, to implement this Section. Implementation of this
16Section shall be contingent on federal approval.
