| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Dennis R. Shackelford of Rochester, who | 4 | | passed away on July 21, 2020; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Dennis Shackelford was born in Lafayette, Indiana | 6 | | to George Shackelford and Betty Jo Shackelford on November 4, | 7 | | 1958; he attended Rochester High School and Springfield College | 8 | | in Illinois; he earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees | 9 | | from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville; he married | 10 | | Judy Langfelder on March 4, 1984; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Dennis Shackelford owned Judy's Hallmark shops in | 12 | | the Springfield area; he was the youngest Hallmark franchisee | 13 | | at the time he opened the stores, serving the community for | 14 | | over 30 years; after retiring, he went into banking and worked | 15 | | for the Williamsville State Bank and Trust, where he also | 16 | | served on the Board of Directors; over the span of his career, | 17 | | he received numerous awards and developed countless | 18 | | friendships with coworkers and customers; and
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Dennis Shackelford remained invested in the | 20 | | development of small businesses in his community as an active | 21 | | member of the Taylorville, Decatur, and Greater Springfield | 22 | | Chambers of Commerce; he served on the Board of Trustees for |

| 1 | | Lincoln Land Community College for six years, and he was chair | 2 | | for two of those years; he was also a trustee of the Rochester | 3 | | Township Board; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Dennis Shackelford was known for his easy manner, | 5 | | quick wit, mentorship, and generosity; he was affectionately | 6 | | known as "Pappy" and "Champ" by his grandchildren; he will be | 7 | | remembered as a devoted family man who remained true to his | 8 | | beliefs and principles; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Dennis Shackelford was preceded in death by his | 10 | | parents and his in-laws, Ossie and Midge Langfelder; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Dennis Shackelford is survived by his wife, Judy; | 12 | | his children, Andrew Shackelford, Lindsey (Lance) Miller, Amy | 13 | | (Tommy) Nika, and Emily Shackelford; his grandchildren, | 14 | | Griffin Miller, Nora Miller, and Regan Nika; his sisters, Sue | 15 | | Ann Kruger, Jeanne (Rick) Eilering, and Linda (Chuck) Lee; his | 16 | | beloved Langfelder sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; and his | 17 | | nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it
| 18 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | 19 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 20 | | Dennis R. Shackelford and extend our sincere condolences to his | 21 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 22 | | further
