430 ILCS 67/5

    Amends the Firearms Restraining Order Act. Provides that the defined term "petitioner" includes a respondent's employer, coworker, or an employee or teacher of a specified school that a respondent has attended in the previous 6 months.

1    AN ACT concerning safety.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Firearms Restraining Order Act is amended by
5changing Section 5 as follows:
 
6    (430 ILCS 67/5)
7    Sec. 5. Definitions. As used in this Act:
8    "Family member of the respondent" means a spouse, parent,
9child, or step-child of the respondent, any other person
10related by blood or present marriage to the respondent, or a
11person who shares a common dwelling with the respondent.
12    "Firearms restraining order" means an order issued by the
13court, prohibiting and enjoining a named person from having in
14his or her custody or control, purchasing, possessing, or
15receiving any firearms.
16    "Intimate partner" means a spouse, former spouse, a person
17with whom the respondent has or allegedly has a child in
18common, or a person with whom the respondent has or has had a
19dating or engagement relationship.
20    "Petitioner" means:
21        (1) a family member of the respondent as defined in
22    this Act; or
23        (2) a law enforcement officer who files a petition

1    alleging that the respondent poses a danger of causing
2    personal injury to himself, herself, or another by having
3    in his or her custody or control, purchasing, possessing,
4    or receiving a firearm; .
5        (3) an employer of the respondent;
6        (4) a coworker of the respondent, if the coworker has
7    had substantial and regular interactions with the
8    respondent for at least one year and has obtained the
9    approval of the employer; or
10        (5) an employee or teacher of a secondary or
11    postsecondary school that the respondent has attended in
12    the previous 6 months, if the employee or teacher has
13    obtained the approval of a school administrator or a school
14    administration staff member with a supervisory role.
15    "Respondent" means the person alleged in the petition to
16pose a danger of causing personal injury to himself, herself,
17or another by having in his or her custody or control,
18purchasing, possessing, or receiving a firearm.
