SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Chester C. VanDeVelde of Moline, who passed away on September 24, 2018; and

WHEREAS, Chester VanDeVelde was born in Sheffield to Charles and Emily (VanDeHandy) VanDeVelde on April 21, 1918; he served in the United States Army 36th Infantry Division during World War II and received the Silver Star, Bronze Star, and the Soldier's Medal; he married Juliette E. VanKerrebroeck in 1947; and

WHEREAS, Chester VanDeVelde worked as a precision grinder at the Rock Island Arsenal for 30 years; and

WHEREAS, Chester VanDeVelde was a member of Sacred Heart Church, the Ex-Servicemen's Club, the Center for Belgian Culture, the Catholic Order of Foresters, and the Friends Circle Club in Moline; he enjoyed needle pointing, carpentry, playing cards, the Chicago Cubs, and winning at rolle bolle; and

WHEREAS, Chester VanDeVelde was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 66 years, Juliette; and

WHEREAS, Chester VanDeVelde is survived by his daughter, Patricia Tjelmeland; his son, Thomas VanDeVelde; his five grandchildren; his 11 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Margie VanKerrebroeck; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Chester C. VanDeVelde and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Chester VanDeVelde as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
