| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Norma Jean Clem Bailey of Danville, who | 4 | | passed away on June 3, 2018; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Jean Bailey was born in Danville to Paul Dennis | 6 | | and Elsie Irene Wilson Clem on September 16, 1925; she | 7 | | graduated from Danville High School in 1943, where she was in | 8 | | an a cappella choir with Bobby Short and Dick Van Dyke; she | 9 | | attended one year of college in Terre Haute, Indiana; she | 10 | | married James Richard "Jim" Bailey at St. James United | 11 | | Methodist Church in Danville on April 13, 1947; she graduated | 12 | | magna cum laude from Indiana State University in 1961 and | 13 | | earned her master's degree in education from the University of | 14 | | Illinois in 1963; she completed post-graduate work on a | 15 | | doctoral dissertation on two-year college reading programs; | 16 | | and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Jean Bailey taught in the Danville school system | 18 | | for ten years; she retired from the adult education department | 19 | | at Danville Area Community College after 27 years; she was the | 20 | | first GED teacher at DACC and established a reading lab and | 21 | | learning center at the college; and
| 22 | | WHEREAS, Jean Bailey was a member of the Danville branch of |

| 1 | | the American Association of University Women, where she served | 2 | | as treasurer; she was a past president of the Alpha Iota | 3 | | Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, a co-founder, first vice | 4 | | president, and then president of the Vermilion Valley Reading | 5 | | Council; she was treasurer and then holder of the line of | 6 | | offices leading to the presidency of the Illinois Reading | 7 | | Council of the International Reading Association; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Jean Bailey enjoyed spending time with her family, | 9 | | reading, traveling, going to antique shops, flea markets, and | 10 | | festivals, and working on family genealogy and photo albums; | 11 | | she and Jim enjoyed their 70th wedding anniversary celebration | 12 | | with family and friends; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Jean Bailey was preceded in death by her parents; | 14 | | and several of her aunts, uncles, and cousins; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Jean Bailey is survived by her husband, Jim; her | 16 | | sons, Terry Wayne (Debbie) Bailey and Jim Dennis (Kathy) | 17 | | Bailey; her daughter, Cheryl Jean (Bill) Bequette; her | 18 | | grandchildren, Shannon Elizabeth Bailey, David Wayne Bailey, | 19 | | Joshua Joseph Votaw, Lindy Sue (Jason) Miller, Andrew William | 20 | | (Julie) Bailey, and Jessica Paige (A.J.) Lewis; her | 21 | | great-grandchildren, Nicholas Charles Stephens, Tevin | 22 | | Christopher Ford, Brandon Thomas Price, Cameron James Price, AJ | 23 | | Miller, Lucy Grace Miller, twins Avery Elizabeth and Caroline |
