| 1 | | SENATE RESOLUTION
| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Phyllis Duff of Savoy, who passed away on | 4 | | December 17, 2017 at the age of 88; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Phyllis Duff earned a Bachelor of Science in | 6 | | Education from Miami University of Ohio and a Master of | 7 | | Education from the University of Illinois; she married Franklin | 8 | | Duff in Cincinnati, Ohio on April 14, 1954 and they lived in | 9 | | Ohio and New York before settling in Champaign in 1964; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Phyllis Duff briefly taught school in Cincinnati; | 11 | | she later taught for 22 years in Champaign Unit 4 Schools, | 12 | | retiring in 1990; 18 of those years were spent at Bottenfield | 13 | | Elementary School; she had a great affection for her students | 14 | | and for many years after retirement she was often recognized | 15 | | and approached by former students or their parents; and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Phyllis Duff enjoyed spending time with her family | 17 | | and friends; she also loved to read; she and her husband | 18 | | enjoyed traveling in the United States and abroad; they | 19 | | attended over 25 elder hostel programs across the U.S.; since | 20 | | 2012, they enjoyed residing at the Windsor of Savoy; and
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Phyllis Duff had a wonderful sense of humor, a |

| 1 | | joyful spirit, and a smile that would light up any room; and
| 2 | | WHEREAS, Phyllis Duff is survived by her loving husband, | 3 | | Frank; her children, Cathy Berrahou, Betsy (Mark) Strong, and | 4 | | Brian Duff; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and | 5 | | her brothers, James W. and William C. Stephenson; therefore, be | 6 | | it
| 7 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | 8 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 9 | | Phyllis Duff, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, | 10 | | friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further
| 11 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 12 | | presented to the family of Phyllis Duff as an expression of our | 13 | | deepest sympathy.
