SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Phyllis Duff of Savoy, who passed away on December 17, 2017 at the age of 88; and

WHEREAS, Phyllis Duff earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Miami University of Ohio and a Master of Education from the University of Illinois; she married Franklin Duff in Cincinnati, Ohio on April 14, 1954 and they lived in Ohio and New York before settling in Champaign in 1964; and

WHEREAS, Phyllis Duff briefly taught school in Cincinnati; she later taught for 22 years in Champaign Unit 4 Schools, retiring in 1990; 18 of those years were spent at Bottenfield Elementary School; she had a great affection for her students and for many years after retirement she was often recognized and approached by former students or their parents; and

WHEREAS, Phyllis Duff enjoyed spending time with her family and friends; she also loved to read; she and her husband enjoyed traveling in the United States and abroad; they attended over 25 elder hostel programs across the U.S.; since 2012, they enjoyed residing at the Windsor of Savoy; and

WHEREAS, Phyllis Duff had a wonderful sense of humor, a joyful spirit, and a smile that would light up any room; and

WHEREAS, Phyllis Duff is survived by her loving husband, Frank; her children, Cathy Berrahou, Betsy (Mark) Strong, and Brian Duff; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and her brothers, James W. and William C. Stephenson; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Phyllis Duff, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Phyllis Duff as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
