SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of William H. "Bill" Dowden Jr., who passed away on December 20, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Bill Dowden was born in Waukegan on December 9, 1924; he graduated from Waukegan Township High School and served in the United States Army Air Corps in England during World War II; he graduated from the Milwaukee School of Engineering; and

WHEREAS, Bill Dowden was a manager of the IBM Corporation in Chicago for 35 years; and

WHEREAS, Bill Dowden was a member of Sharvin American Legion Post #397 in North Chicago and a life member and past master of Waukegan Lodge #78; he was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church in Waukegan, where he served as an acolyte for 59 years and was part of the Vestry, the Men's Club, and the Men's Christ Care Group; he was a life member of the Valley of Chicago Scottish Rite Masons and the Tebala Shrine Temple in Rockford; he was Director Emeritus of the Waukegan Motor Patrol; and

WHEREAS, Bill Dowden is survived by his beloved wife, Norma Jane (Totterdell) Dowden; his son, Douglas (Iris) Dowden; his daughter, Linda (Brian) Nelson; his grandchildren, Michael (Stephanie) Collins-Dowden and Emily Dowden, and Erik, Andrew, and Amy Nelson; his great-grandson, Rhys Collins-Dowden; his sister, Elizabeth (William) Potochnik; and several nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of William H. "Bill" Dowden Jr., and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Bill Dowden as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
