SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Lisa McCarthy-Brooks, who passed away on November 28, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Lisa was born in Chicago to Franklin N. McCarthy and Callie E. Tucker McCarthy on March 22, 1963; at an early age, she exhibited independence, creativity, and entrepreneurial skills; she attended Leif Erikson Grammar School and graduated from Austin High School; she then attended The University of Illinois and studied Child Development; she married Ulus Brooks III on July 14, 1997; and

WHEREAS, Lisa worked at Habilitative Systems, Inc. in Chicago for 20 years; she was a licensed child care worker with the Department of Children and Family Services; she was also active in several beauty and health and wellness companies; she excelled as a Platinum Gold Manager in Traci Lynn Fashion Jewelry, as a National Director in 5Linx, and briefly with ARIIX; and

WHEREAS, Lisa regularly attended church with her mother; she was active in the Austin Baptist Church Choir and many other church-related activities; she also attended and was active as a choir member at New Faith Baptist Church International in Matteson; and

WHEREAS, Lisa was preceded in death by her brother, Michael; and her brother-in-law, Donnie Brooks; and

WHEREAS, Lisa is survived by her husband, Ulus III; her children, Takeya, Callie, and Lamar; Darrell Jefferson, his children, Sean and Cameron, and their mother, Lauren; her siblings, Lyndia D. McCarthy, Deborah (Maurice) McCarthy-Hosch, Glenn (Lala) McCarthy, Pattite McCarthy, and Donald (Tracey) McCarthy; her nieces and nephews, Megan, Jacqueline, Ashanti, Matthew, Melissa, Taren (Steve), Mariah, Issac, Aaylaih, Nissa, Antonio, Glenn, Pebbles, Cody, Deisha, Ethan, Kailee, and Timothy; her father-in-law, Ulus Brooks; her mother-in-law, Dorothy Brooks; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Gerri and Hugh Morris, Shirley and Vernal Simmons, Tamika and Ralph Brandon, Delores Brooks and John Williams, Gwen and Percy Davis, Tina Brooks, Sandra Brooks, and Marlynn McCarthy; her special and dear friends, Carmelita Earl, Clara Williams, Arlene Pitchford, and Marleena Taylor; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Lisa McCarthy-Brooks and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Lisa as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
