SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of John B. Cox Sr. of Silvis, who passed away on November 13, 2017; and

WHEREAS, John Cox was born in Lawrenceburg, Indiana to Verle and Mildred Masters Cox; he served in the Army Infantry Division for over seven years; he married Ellen Wetterstroem in Lawrenceburg, Indiana on September 7, 1956; and

WHEREAS, John Cox worked at John Deere Harvester in East Moline as an R5 machine repair and maintenance mechanic for 30 years; and

WHEREAS, John Cox was a member of the United Auto Workers Local 865; he enjoyed reading, watching TV, NASCAR, BMX racing, RVing, and traveling; he was a well-known national senior cruiser rider; and

WHEREAS, John Cox was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ellen; three infant sons; his brother, Dick; and his sister, Marilyn; and

WHEREAS, John Cox is survived by his children, Mary (Rick) Franks and John Jr. (Marcia) Cox; his grandchildren, Ashley, Chelsea, Jared, Catlyn, and Sean; and his siblings, Bob (Bette) Cox, Ruth (Merle) Schlemmer, Nancy (Bill) Wallace, and Barbara (Walter) Inman; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of John B. Cox Sr. and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of John Cox as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
