| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Marijule S. Shields of Harvard, who | 4 | | passed away on September 19, 2017 at the age of 101; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Marijule Shields was born in Harvard to Edward and | 6 | | Pearl (Waters) Strain on March 30, 1916; she attended St. | 7 | | Joseph's School in Harvard and graduated from Harvard High | 8 | | School in 1934; she attended the University of Wisconsin in | 9 | | Whitewater and married Joseph R. Shields at St. Joseph Catholic | 10 | | Church in Harvard on June 21, 1939; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Marijule Shields played a major role as advisor | 12 | | and hostess for her husband throughout his years in business | 13 | | and civic organizations; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Marijule Shields was active in several book and | 15 | | golf organizations and was an accomplished bridge player; she | 16 | | was a loving mother and grandmother who thought of everyone | 17 | | else above herself; she was a member of St. Joseph Catholic | 18 | | Church, a member of Daughters of Isabella, and a Brownie and | 19 | | Girl Scout leader for many years in Harvard; and
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Marijule Shields was preceded in death by her | 21 | | parents; her husband, Joe; and her sister, Kathy Smith; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Marijule Shields is survived by her children, | 2 | | Barbara (Kirk) McComb, Karyl (James) Glass, Michael Shields, | 3 | | Ray (Roberta) Shields, and Patricia (Frank) Novel; 10 | 4 | | grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two | 5 | | great-great-grandchildren on the way; therefore, be it
| 6 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | 7 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 8 | | Marijule S. Shields, and extend our sincere condolences to her | 9 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | 10 | | further
| 11 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 12 | | presented to the family of Marijule Shields as an expression of | 13 | | our deepest sympathy.
