1    AN ACT concerning government.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Illinois Controlled Substances Act is
5amended by adding Section 315.5 as follows:
 
6    (720 ILCS 570/315.5 new)
7    Sec. 315.5. Opioid education for prescribers. Every
8prescriber who is licensed to prescribe controlled substances
9shall, during the pre-renewal period, complete 3 hours of
10continuing education on safe opioid prescribing practices
11offered or accredited by a professional association, State
12government agency, or federal government agency.
13Notwithstanding any individual licensing Act or administrative
14rule, a prescriber may count these 3 hours toward the total
15continuing education hours required for renewal of a
16professional license. Continuing education on safe opioid
17prescribing practices applied to meet any other State licensure
18requirement or professional accreditation or certification
19requirement may be used toward the requirement under this
20Section. The Department of Financial and Professional
21Regulation may adopt rules for the administration of this
22Section.
