SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:

105 ILCS 5/34-18.55

    Amends the School Code. Prohibits a school board from limiting the number of dual credit courses a student may enroll in or the number of credits a student may receive from dual credit courses. Provides that if a school district establishes an online learning program for students (with exceptions), the school board may not limit (i) which students may participate in the program, (ii) the number of online courses a student may enroll in, or (iii) the number of credits a student may receive from online courses.

1    AN ACT concerning education.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The School Code is amended by renumbering and
5changing Sections 10-20.60 and 34-18.53, as added by Public Act
6100-133, and by adding Section 27-23.11 as follows:
 
7    (105 ILCS 5/10-20.62)
8    Sec. 10-20.62 10-20.60. Dual enrollment and dual credit;
9notification.
10    (a) In this Section, "dual credit course" has the meaning
11ascribed to that term in the Dual Credit Quality Act.
12    (b) A school board may not limit the number of dual credit
13courses a student may enroll in or the number of credits a
14student may receive from dual credit courses.
15    (c) A school board shall require the school district's high
16schools, if any, to inform all 11th and 12th grade students of
17dual enrollment and dual credit opportunities at public
18community colleges for qualified students.

21    Sec. 27-23.11. Online learning. If a school district

1under Section 10-20.56 or 10-29 of this Code, the school board
2may not limit which students may participate in the program.
3With respect to the course offerings available under the online
4learning program, a school board may not limit the number of
5online courses a student may enroll in or the number of credits
6a student may receive from online courses.
