SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
5 ILCS 490/133 new

    Amends the State Commemorative Dates Act. Designates May 17th of each year as Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) Awareness Day to be observed throughout the State as a day to encourage the people of Illinois to help increase public awareness of this particularly aggressive form of cancer affecting children.

1    AN ACT concerning government.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The State Commemorative Dates Act is amended by
5adding Section 133 as follows:
 
6    (5 ILCS 490/133 new)
7    Sec. 133. Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG)
8Awareness Day. May 17th of each year is designated as Diffuse
9Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) Awareness Day. Brain tumors are
10the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in children, and
11DIPG is a highly aggressive brain tumor that affects roughly
12300 children a year in the United States. DIPG Awareness Day is
13to be observed throughout the State as a day to encourage the
14people of Illinois to help increase public awareness of this
15particularly aggressive form of cancer affecting children.
