| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Sylvia P. | 4 | | "Patty" Cato; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Sylvia Cato was born in Chicago to James and | 6 | | Constance McKay on November 5, 1934 and raised in the Lillydale | 7 | | Community on the south side of Chicago; she was an active | 8 | | member of Lillydale First Baptist Church, where she was part of | 9 | | the Children's Choir, usher board, and the youth organization, | 10 | | BYPU; she graduated from Gillespie Elementary School and | 11 | | Calumet High School; she attended the University of Illinois | 12 | | and Chicago State University, where she earned her bachelor's | 13 | | degree in business education, and Governors State University | 14 | | where she earned two master's degrees in business education and | 15 | | counseling; she married Albert Cato Jr.; and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Sylvia Cato was an advocate for education and | 17 | | spent the majority of her life in educational roles, the last | 18 | | 17 years of her career as a counselor; prior to that, she | 19 | | served as a business instructor with Chicago Public Schools; | 20 | | she also modeled with the Carrie Scott modeling agency; and
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Sylvia Cato joined Trinity United Church of Christ | 22 | | in 1978, where she served as a member of the deacon board and |

| 1 | | counseling ministries; she loved to travel, sew, read, attend | 2 | | plays and sporting events, and spend time with her family and | 3 | | friends, especially her dog, Sugar Pie; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Sylvia Cato was preceded in death by her parents; | 5 | | her brother, James McKay Jr.; and her sisters, Lucille Garnett, | 6 | | Ruth Grimsley, Ethelyn Christmas, Virginia DeBerry, and | 7 | | Joceyln McKay Durr; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Sylvia Cato is survived by her loving husband of | 9 | | 64 years, Albert; her daughters, Deborah C. Moore (Kerry), | 10 | | Deidre D. Cato-Baker (Jerome), and Cheryl D. Cato; her | 11 | | granddaughter, Rachel D. Evans; her sisters, State Rep. Monique | 12 | | D. Davis and Constance M. Donnella; and numerous nieces, | 13 | | nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it
| 14 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 15 | | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | 16 | | mourn the passing of Sylvia P. "Patty" Cato, and extend our | 17 | | sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew | 18 | | and loved her; and be it further
| 19 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 20 | | presented to the family of Sylvia Cato as an expression of our | 21 | | deepest sympathy.
