HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Central Catholic High School on its recognition by the United States Department of Education as a 2017 National Blue Ribbon School; and

WHEREAS, Central Catholic High School was nominated for this award by The Council for American Private Education; out of the 33,000 private schools in the nation, only 50 received the 2017 National Blue Ribbon award and only six percent of schools in the nation have ever been named a National Blue Ribbon School; Central Catholic High School, an exemplary high-performing school, is the first and only high school in Bloomington-Normal to receive this recognition; and

WHEREAS, Central Catholic High School is a comprehensive, co-educational, four-year high school with a college-preparatory emphasis within a Christ-centered environment; the standardized test scores of the students are among the top 15 percent in the nation; for the past two years, the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) has presented every Central Catholic athletic team with the IHSA Team Academic Award, which is given to teams who average at least a 3.0 grade point average during their season of play; and

WHEREAS, In 2017, in their index of "America's Most Challenging High Schools," the Washington Post ranked Central Catholic High School as the most challenging high school in the state of Illinois, south of Chicago and its suburbs; students acquire twenty-first century skills and graduate as college-ready young men and women; and

WHEREAS, This recognition is a reflection of the hard work of the faculty and staff, both past and present, who believe in the mission of Central Catholic High School and who come to work every day ready to make a difference in the lives of their students; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Central Catholic High School on its 2017 National Blue Ribbon School recognition, and we recognize the dedication of the faculty and staff to its students; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be sent to Sean Foster, Principal of Central Catholic High School as an expression of our esteem and respect.
